Vending Ltd with Mars Drinks is a founding member of Save a Cup; a
not-for-profit organisation that collects and recycles polystyrene
(plastic) cups. The recycling scheme offered by Save a Cup allows our
customers to recycle their used plastic and papers cups reducing the amount of
waste they send to landfill sites.
How does it work? When a customer has joined the Save a Cup scheme
they simply need to collect all of their used plastic cups in special
recycling bins. Save a Cup will collect the cups from the site on a
regular basis and take them to a recycling plant to be turned
into useful products, such as ice scrapers and cup trays.
Since we with Mars Drinks helped to form Save a cup over one billion
cups have been recycled. Each year we estimate that around 500 tonnes
of plastic cups are recycled and we want to double this figure over the
next couple of years.

As
part of our obligations under WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment) Directive we offer a collection scheme to help our customers
dispose of their old FLAVIA machines responsibly. FLAVIA machines are
collected and brought back to our machine factory for valeting. Machine
parts are then re-used in new machines or saved as spare parts wherever
possible to help maximise efficiency.
If machines cannot be re-used then we are able to
recycle the plastic casing in the machine as well as extracting the
precious metals such as copper and goal from the electrical components.
At the moment we recycle an estimated 95% of the machine. In addition
to this, we also have a process to recycle the wooden base units.
