Recycling

Despite
their popularity, no authority in the UK currently provides a municipal
recycling system for multi-laminate materials like those used for
FLAVIA Filterpacks. To help with this issue we have established a
programme, through the not-for-profit organisation Save-a-Cup that
turns the used Filterpacks into energy.
Why use multi-laminate materials in the first place? Good question. The
simple answer is because there is not a better or even vaguely
equivalent way to pack the coffee, tea or other materials that make up
the superb Flavia range of drinks and keep them as fresh as is demanded
by Mars Drinks, UK Vending Ltd or even more importantly: by YOU.
If all UK FLAVIA Filterpacks were disposed of through this scheme,
enough energy would be generated to light 10,000 homes for a year. By
joining you can reduce the use of valuable natural resources and help
generate electricity. What a delightful and flavoursome way to save
money and save our planet.
How does it work?
Used FLAVIA Filterpacks are collected by Save-a-Cup and sent to an
energy plant to be turned into electricity. This electricity is fed
into the national grid and used to provide energy for the nations
homes, reducing the need for non-renewable fossil fuels. Clever or what?
Just a thought: people are sometimes understandably concerned about
emissions from energy plants. FLAVIA Filterpacks have been designed to
burn cleanly and all chlorine-containing compounds (associated with the
production of dioxins) were removed from Flavia packaging several years
ago. Whilst some CO2 is released in the process, this gas is actually
20 times less potent a greenhouse gas than methane which is released
from landfill sites - we at UK Vending constantly monitor all issues
potentially arising from the products we sell or from those we might
consider providing to our customers. There is not a product on earth
that we would consider selling - regardless to potential profits - if
we believed it would be harmful to our world.
Why not visit us now at to see just how carefully we look after our
world and how seriously we take our corporate social responsibility.

your Paper Cup |
|
Every
year, people in the UK drink millions of cups of coffee and tea from
vending machines in the workplace. Normal paper cups, often used for
hot drinks, contain an oil-based plastic lining which prevents them
from being recycled. Finding a more environmentally friendly
alternative has been a real challenge - but we overcame it! We are
proud to introduce the UK's first eco-friendly hot drinks vending cup:
The UK Vending & Flavia's N-viro cup.
UK Vending & Flavia's new N-viro cup is an environmentally friendly
alternative to traditional paper cups, which uses PLA, a bio-based
plastic lining derived from corn which is fully compostable.
Composting - composting is the process of breaking down organic waste
into compost which can be used to add nutrients back into the soil.
Flavia from Mars Drinks and K Vending Ltd are the first to set up a
collection scheme in England to help you turn your cups into compost!
Flavia N-viro cups need to be composted in industrial facilities
because they require specific conditions to ensure they break
down… see - we thought of everything.
The launch of the N-viro cup means you can now enjoy the same great
tasting FLAVIA Fresh-ground Coffees and Real Leaf Teas, whilst doing
your bit for the planet. For comparisons on environmental impact of

Recycling |
|
UK
Vending Ltd with Mars Drinks is a founding member of Save a Cup; a
not-for-profit organisation that collects and recycles polystyrene
(plastic) cups. The recycling scheme offered by Save a Cup allows KLIX
customers to recycle their used plastic cups and reduce the amount of
waste they send to landfill sites.
How does it work? When a KLIX customer has joined the Save a Cup scheme
they simply need to collect all of their used KLIX cups in special
recycling bins. Save a Cup will collect the cups from the site on a
regular basis and take them to a plastic recycling plant to be turned
into useful products such as ice scrapers and cup trays.
Since we with Mars Drinks helped to form Save a cup over one billion
cups have been recycled. Each year we estimate that around 300 tonnes
of KLIX cups are recycled and we want to double this figure over the
next couple of years. |

Recycling |

As
part of our obligations under WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment) Directive we offer a collection scheme to help our customers
dispose of their old FLAVIA machines responsibly. FLAVIA machines are
collected and brought back to our machine factory for valeting. Machine
parts are then re-used in new machines or saved as spare parts wherever
possible to help maximise efficiency.
If machines cannot be re-used then we are able to
recycle the plastic casing in the machine as well as extracting the
precious metals such as copper and goal from the electrical components.
At the moment we recycle an estimated 95% of the machine. In addition
to this, we also have a process to recycle the wooden base units.
