Flavia English Breakfast is certified Rainforest Alliance

alliance ranforest With the increasing importance of sustainability across the globe, FLAVIA have been working with the Rainforest Alliance to source some of our finest ingredients from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.

UK Vending Ltd are excited to announce that in addition to certifying FLAVIA Smooth Roast, Colombia and Rich Roast fresh-ground coffees back in October 2008, we are adding a tea to this range – FLAVIA English Breakfast.

Now at least 30% of our FLAVIA English Breakfast fresh tea leaves are sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.

Flavia have been working with the Rainforest Alliance to source coffee beans from certified farmers. To be able to certify our coffees with the Rainforest alliance green frog logo, at least 30% of the beans need to be sourced from these farms.

The Rainforest Alliance is a leading international conservation organization. Their mission is to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that live within them by implementing better business practices for biodiversity conservation and sustainability.

Companies, cooperatives, and landowners that participate in the Rainforest Alliance's programs meet rigorous standards for protecting the environment, wildlife, workers, and local communities.

The livelihood of more than 25 million people depends on coffee cultivation.

Following crude oil, coffee is the most highly traded commodity in the world. Coffee plantations where the rain forests have been conserved are a blessing for wildlife. Coffee bearing the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal comes from plantations that protect these forests along with rivers, wildlife and the people.

Workers on these plantations and their families are treated respectfully, paid appropriate wages, receive medical treatment and have access to education. The Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal guarantees that these coffee plantations are managed in accordance with strict standards for social and environmental sustainability set by the Rainforest Alliance and their affiliated partner organisations.
Health Aspects of Using China Cups

Reusable V Disposables

How can we help reduce risk of infection use of reusable cups poses a risk, if the cup is not washed in boiling water, cross contamination could occur, transmitting disease from worker to worker or customer to customer. Have a look on the edge of the glass or mug, and you will quite often see the lipstick from a previous user, this indicates that the process being used to clean the item is not adequate, putting users at high risk. Even without an obvious sign, a glass or china mug may look clean, but unless it has been completely sanitised bacteria or viruses can live on the surface without being visible to the naked eye, infecting the next user of the glass or china mug. Reusable glasses like the ones found in hotel bedrooms would pose the same risk, and the question has to be asked, how are these cups and glasses being washed ready for the next occupant?

Solution

The quick fix to all this would be to use single service products like a paper cup or disposable glass, you then have the confidence that everyone is starting with a completely safe vessel. At this time I do not think anyone can be putting customers or staff at risk with reusable items.

Global health authorities warned Wednesday that swine flu was threatening to bloom into a pandemic, and the virus spread farther in Europe even as the outbreak appeared to stabilize at its epicenter. A toddler who succumbed in Texas became the first death outside Mexico. New cases and deaths finally seemed to be levelling off in Mexico, where 160 people have been killed, after an aggressive public health campaign. But the World Health Organization said the global threat is nevertheless serious enough to ramp up efforts to produce a vaccine against the virus. The group raised its pandemic alert for swine flu to the second highest level Wednesday, meaning that it believes a global outbreak of the disease is imminent. It was the first time the WHO had declared a phase 5 outbreak.

WHO Director General Margaret Chan declared the phase 5 alert after consulting with flu experts from around the world. The decision could lead the global body to recommend additional measures to combat the outbreak, including for vaccine manufacturers to switch production from seasonal flu vaccines to a pandemic vaccine.

"All countries should immediately now activate their pandemic preparedness plans," Chan told reporters in Geneva. "It really is all of humanity that is under threat in a pandemic."

UK Vending Guardian Angels & Daisylove

It started with one child and became a scheme to help more than 20. Next year that number will grow and who knows where, if ever, it will end. It began with the view of one of our UK Vending employees who thought that his coins dropped in the occasional collecting tin outside Sainsbury's made very little difference to the world and that maybe instead of trying to help so many with so little we could make a real difference by taking complete responsibility for just one or two kids that needed our help. The original one or two are now twenty four children aged from 17 down to just a few weeks plus six children and their respective families. Twelve years ago that first 'one child that needed support' came along and we sponsored her schooling and medical care and we sheltered her in a safe community - then another, and another came along until UK Vending's Managing Director and staff found they sheltered, educated and cared for twenty four children. In 2008 we decided to work with the Daisylove Foundation to expand our aims and available help. We did not stop with only looking after children in Southern Africa. We donated and supported overseas medical appeals and donated to Darfur relief. We created the UK Vending Outreach scheme to assist kids living on the streets in Britain. We partnered local community projects and even an entire dogs' home. We have been successful in our business and we have a dedicated staff with very little staff turnover because we all like and respect each other. We have been very fortunate and we try very hard to share a little of our good fortune with others.
