World Refill Day
We all have the good intention of using our water bottle again and again and again; refilling it and never having to use another single use plastic bottle again, but how many of us actually do it? Not as many as the world needs – that is the reason behind World Refill Day. As a gentle reminder to use your refillable bottle as many times as you like.
This 16th June marks a global day of action that will accelerate the transition away from disposable plastics to refill and reuse. A campaign group has been running for over 7 years that has dramatically changed the world. Since its launch in Bristol in 2015 the campaign has seen over 330,000 refill stations pop up across the United Kingdom. The statistics speak for themselves, those filling stations have saved an estimated 60 million plastic bottles from going straight into the ground where they will take around 1000 years to degrade. If you were to take all those plastics end to end they would be the same length as 418,181 Blue Whales – the largest creature ever to have lived on Planet Earth.
It is so easy to take part in this day of action. Simply use refill stations to fill up your reusable bottle and then repeat the next day and the next until you are not buying new plastic bottles at all.
