8 glasses of water to lower heart risk
If you want to reduce your risk of developing heart problems the answer, it seems, is a simple one. Drink eight glasses of water a day.
Scientists found the more hydrated someone is in middle age, the less likely they are to suffer heart problems later. Most people do not drink the recommended daily intake of 1.6 to 2.1 litres of fluid for women and 2 to 3 litres for men.
American researchers analysed 15,000 middle aged adults and measured sodium in their blood – an indicator of hydration. Higher levels were associated with heart problems 25 years later.
