Bees making a beeline for coffee

Everyone likes a good news story about bees don’t they.

Scientists at Newcastle University have recently discovered that bees like coffee and they are not alone as numerous other insects like it too. The researchers surmised that the insects are more likely to remember the location of their favourite plants if the plants nectar contains caffeine.

Another researcher, this time in Haifa in Israel, went one step further stating that he felt plants may have evolved the production of caffeine to make bees and other insects addicted to their nectar, thus ensuring that the bees keep returning to pollinate them again and again. Isn’t nature amazing?
