COFFEE CUPS INTO SHOPPING BAGS?
Every year at UKVending we hear of new and innovative ways of transforming waste products into must have luxury items and this year is no exception with news from High Street department store Selfridges offering shopping bags made from coffee cups.
Yes, coffee cups! It sounds farfetched but with over 2.5 billion unrecyclable coffee cups used annually across the United Kingdom and then simply discarded into trash cans or the street, anything to reduce this pile of waste is a good idea.
Selfridges have formed a business partnership with a specialist recycling firm that is able to remove the non disposable plastic lining in modern coffee cups that prevents them from being economically recycled. The coffee cups from Selfridges’s London store’s food hall and offices then get collected and sent to Cumbria. There they are processed into paper which is then manufactured into the store’s iconic yellow shopping bags.
