Cuppa declared best health drink
For fans of a daily cuppa this news comes as no surprise but a cup of tea is better than a protein shake or similar as the best health drink hands down.
Research conducted by Tufts University in Boston, USA, was presented to a meeting of the Tea Council of the United States in which it stated that four cups of tea a day helps boost the human immune system’s response to the threats posed by a variety of diseases and conditions including Alzheimer’s and diabetes.
Tea’s superpowers stem from the flavonoids contained within the drink. These naturally occurring compounds have, over the last decade, been studied in minute detail and act like antioxidants seeking out and destroying illness triggering ‘free radicals’ in the body. Tea also contains an amino acid called L-Theanine known to improve mental focus and sleep.
Around 100 million cuppas are drunk in the UK every single day – or about 36 billion every year.
