Dark chocolate good for your kidneys

Here at UKVending we are partial to a nice nibble on a deliciously dark chocolate bar and now we have scientific proof of what we knew all alone, it is actually doing us some good. Not too much of it mind, but just a little can do us good.

A recent two month long trial with 50 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition that reduces kidney function and leads to tiredness and swollen ankles, set out to see if dark chocolate could help.

The patients were given 40g of dark chocolate daily. Dark chocolate contains compounds called polyphenols, naturally occurring antioxidants which have anti-inflammatory properties.

Scientists at the Federal University of Fluminense in Brazil believe their study reduced the levels of inflammation causing the CKD. More studies are underway to confirm their results.
