Great news for all Chocololics
Over the last few years there has been a lot of news about how climate change will firstly decrease the amount of cacao plants in the world and how the shortage will send up chocolate prices worldwide. That was the bad news, but there is now some good news too.
It appears that scientists conducting studies in the depths of South America’s rainforests have discovered some new species of cacao plant that are more resistant to the effects of rising global temperatures, droughts, disease and pests.
This is good news as the new plants could be cultivated to provide a new source of chocolate and also offer some new and exciting flavours to try. The newly unearthed plants are closely related to Theobroma cacao, the main crop for chocolate production.
