Heard about sparkling tea?

We Brits get through more than 150 million cups of tea a day. That allows us to think of ourselves as experts on how best to prepare and drink a good nice cuppa. Well the latest innovation in tea certainly will divide the nation: sparkling tea!

Yes you heard it right, non alcoholic sparkling tea. What’s more, you drink it cold and bubbly.

Sparkling tea is the brainchild of Danish wine sommelier Jacob Kocemba and Bo Sten Hansen, co founders of the Sparkling Tea Company, who wanted to create a credible non alcoholic alternative to wine.

They set about blending different types of tea, from delicate white teas to fuller flavoured black teas, soaking the leaves first in hot water, then cold water before adding grape juice, fresh lemon juice and, finally, bubbles.

But these two Danes were not the first to spot the potential for sparkling tea, here in the UK, it was the Queen’s favourite grocer, Fortnum and Mason’s who have an exclusive Sparkling tea blend, made by Kocemba in 2019.

There are a number of manufacturers experimenting with flavours and it won’t be long before you may just see sparkling tea everywhere.
