Heavyweight mug anyone?

nice_cup_of_tea

How heavy is your mug? Well here at UKVending we love research that makes your enjoyment of your tea all that much better and we found this one and thought we just must share this new study’s research.

It appears that the taste of your favorite tea tastes better in a mug than in a nice cup. Researchers at the University of Oxford tested tea drinkers. They were given two brews named A and B. In the taste test all preferred the tea that was called A, despite the tea in both being exactly the same.

The mugs were virtually identical except one was heavier than the other with the addition of a 30g weight.

The researchers concluded that we make the assumption that the heavier the mug the better the tea quality is. This assertion is re-enforced by the perception that tea served in throw away cups is low quality.

The research was recently shown on Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped programme and Professor Charles Spence from the University of Oxford said: “People can’t separate the tea from the container. It’s as if your brain takes weight as a sign of quality – which in many categories it is.”
