How much greenhouse gas does your favourite drink produce annually.
Avoiding meat and dairy products is one of the biggest ways to reduce your environmental impact, according to recent scientific studies.
But what is the difference between beef and chicken? Does a bowl of rice produce more climate warming greenhouse gases than a plate of chips? Is wine more environmentally friendly than beer?
To find out the climate impact of what you eat and drink has we’ve done the calculations and this is what we have discovered.
All figures are based on having between 3-5 of each of these a week.
Dark Chocolate produces 309kg annually of greenhouse gases or the equivalent of driving a car 789 miles.
Milk Chocolate produces 214 kg annually of greenhouse gases or the equivalent of driving a car 547 miles.
Coffee produces 89 kg annually of greenhouse gases or the equivalent of driving a car 227 miles.
Milk produces 131 kg of greenhouse gases or the equivalent of driving a car 334 miles.
Tea, however, produces just 8kg of greenhouse gases or the equivalent of driving a car just 22 miles.
