It’s all in your Jeans!
When you hear the expression ‘wear your coffee’, it usually means you’ve had a terrible accident and your drink has spilled over your clothes, but not anymore. Now you could literally be wearing coffee when you pull on a pair of Decaf Denim trousers. Yes really!
A firm called Coalatree have had kickstarter funding to launch a new product made from recycled plastic and coffee. The trousers are what is known as ‘technical stretch demin’ which are extremely innovative and push the boundaries of current technical knowledge but is also and fundamentally environmentally friendly. The process behind these new trousers has been in development for over four years but has reached a point where the Decaf Denim trousers are comfortable to wear and can be manufactured in a totally sustainable way.
To make a usual pair of denim jeans takes 3,800 gallons of water, but the new process using recycled materials, organic cotton and a waterless dye method reduces this demand by many thousands of gallons per pair of trousers.
