Manna from Heaven

Imagine ordering your morning coffee and instead of it being handed over to you by a friendly smiling Barista was dropped from the sky by a buzzing drone. Well, that’s the situation in the Irish town of Oranmore where a pilot project is delivering coffees, pizzas and nappies to residents.

The project, called Manna, as in Manna from Heaven, was set up in 2018 and sees orders delivered within 3 minutes to anywhere in the town.

And it could be coming to a town near you in England. Once at the customers address the drone will hover 50 metres above the house before finding a suitable place to drop its precious cargo. Once that is discovered the drone drops to 15 metres and a hatch inside the drone opens up. The order is then lowered down on a biodegradable rope. The rope detaches once the bag containing the order touches the floor and the drone then flies away. The whole process of delivery takes just 7 seconds from the hover.

The company behind Manna are confident that coffee won’t be spilled on route. They have already delivered a cream cake with lit candles on it, so coffee, literally, would be a piece of cake.
