Millennials spend £728 per year on takeaway coffees
Ever wondered if the Millennials, those people born around the turn of the century, are continuing to drink coffee in the same quantities as their parents? Well, fear not, researchers have done the number crunching and have come up with an answer.
In a time of financial crisis and fiscal austerity if seems that millennials are more concerned with getting a great tasting takeaway coffee than its cost. The research conducted on behalf of fast food giant McDonalds gathered a great deal of information about how we like coffee.
For adults aged 28 to 43 they will pay, on average, £728 per year for coffee. Generation Z (ages 12 – 27) however pay much less or drink fewer coffees paying, on average, £676 annually. The Boomer generation, (ages 60-69) however, are the most frugal spending only £260 per year. The number crunchers behind the research went further and worked out that the average UK coffee drinker will spend somewhere in the region of £29,000 in their lifetime on takeaway coffees – that’s the equivalent of 515 gallons or 4,123 pints. The survey also found that the ideal price point for a coffee would be £1.86, nearly half the UK high street average of £3.40. Of those lattes were the most popular followed by cappuccinos.
Tellingly, the survey also found that of the workers who’s workplace offered free coffee 35 per cent said that they would prefer to go to a takeaway shop and get a ‘nice’ coffee instead than use the provided facilities. Perhaps they should call us and get their kettle and cups replaced with one of UK Vending’s outstanding range of vending machines that offer world class tasting coffees, teas and hot chocolates.
