Oysters anyone?

Oysters-half-shell

What is the first thing you think of when I say oysters? Yes they are an acquired taste. What is the second thing? Yes they do have a bit of a reputation for giving lovers a bit of a boost shall we say. Well now if you live in a certain part of France you can also get oysters through a vending machine. Here at UKVending we love hearing of unique and interesting ways to use machines like the ones we have on offer to businesses up and down the country and this is one of the best we’ve found yet.

The refrigerated automatic oyster dispenser can be found at Pirou in Normandy where an enterprising local called Ghislaine Lefeuvre installed a machine and charges 11.50 Euros for two dozen medium sized oysters. The seaweed in which they are served comes free. But Ms Lefeuvre is not alone as on the island of Île de Ré off the west coast of France, another entrepreneurial couple, Brigette and Tony Berthelot had a similar idea for the ‘tasty molluscs’. The Berthelot’s business is designed around the idea of French diners having a late night hankering for a delicious plate of oysters and for the remarkably cheap price of £6.25 for twelve. Such is the demand for the service that they have even established a way to pre-order your oysters via text. Once you’ve sent your text a return message will include a code that you can tap into the machine when you get to the company’s store. This not only allows you to get the oysters fresher but comes with the added benefit of free additions such as pate and sea asparagus to make the oysters taste even more delicious.
