PG Tips goes plastic free
It appears that the tide of public opinion about the overuse of plastic in everyday life may have turned. For decades plastic has been included in almost every aspect of modern life from beverage bottles right down to teabags. Who knew that teabags had plastic in them?
In the latest move to remove plastics PG Tips have announced that their Pyramid teabags will in future be made from a plant based material and with all their other products by the end of this year.
With the leading tea brand in the UK, the switching to fully biodegradable tea bags that have had every synthetic material removed will make a significant and sizeable reduction in plastic pollution.
The move by PG Tips parent company Unilever follows successful introductions of the same products in Canada, Indonesia and Poland.
According to the UK Tea and Infusions Association, tea remains the UK’s most popular drink with 165 million cups of tea drunk every single day across the country.
