Shroom food: Mushrooms in your coffee?

What would you least want to see in your coffee? A fly perhaps or undissolved sugar crystals maybe? Well, how about fungus? Or more precisely mushrooms?

It’s the latest trend in barista style conscious coffee bars as you see small pieces of Reishi, boletus, cordyceps and lion’s mane mushrooms in your cup of steaming hot coffee or hot chocolate. It is a real thing and we thought we should bring you up to speed on this new trend here at UK Vending. The whole experience even has a viral name to it ‘Shroom food’.

What is more, there are some sound reasons for adding mushrooms into your coffee. No really there are. Most baristas will go heavy on the healthy aspect of mushrooms that have antibacterial, antiviral and immune enhancing properties. More importantly perhaps, what does mushrooms in your coffee taste like? Those who have tried this have described the taste as being somewhere between coffee and tea but with a bit of bitter finish to it.

But here’s the clincher for the deal, mushrooms in your hot chocolate, coffee or even in an energy bar, doesn’t come cheap. Chocolate bars with mushrooms can cost anywhere between £6 and £10 a pop for a 100g bar!
