SIZE IS EVERYTHING
We’ve all seen it – shrinkage.
Shrinkage in our wage packets, shrinkage in our waistlines – well the last one was wishful thinking – but shrinkage is a real issue when it comes to food. In recent years under pressure from the Government confectionary manufacturers have been forced to reduce the calorie content of their products – with the visual result being a smaller size of their leading brands; the idea being to make a stand against the growing tide of obesity that has been levelled at the food industry. But at UKVending we were wondering is it having the desired effect to make us all eat less surgery products and think more deeply about what we eat?
Recent research conducted by Ghent University in Belgium and published in The Journal of Business Research seems to indicate a public kickback of government initiatives. Their research shows that people are buying two or three of the smaller sized products and consuming both, thereby actually increasing their consumption rather than reducing it.
The study involved 188 students who were asked to watch a movie for 10 minutes while eating brownies under one of four conditions: – six peoples on a plate; two large pieces on a plate; three small bags containing 2 pieces in each and the fourth option – one large bag with six pieces. The results all showed a preference to eat the largest amounts.
So it seems we are still addicted to sugar and all things sweet. If you have a need for sweets then check out the large selection we have here at UKVending.
