Tea and a good dunking

What could be better than sitting down with a nice cuppa and relaxing? Sitting down with a nice cuppa, relaxing and having biscuits to dunk in your tea of course!

But what is the best biscuit to use for the perfect experience? It’s a question that has vexed the cleverest minds in the country and Biscuit manufacturer McVitie’s has invested not an inconsiderably amount of time, effort, and money into determining what makes the perfect ‘dunker’. Their research has shown that nearly 20 per cent of young people are dunking compared with people over 55 years old.

An, admittedly not very scientific, experiment to see which biscuit is best dunked in your cuppa was carried out pitting the various attributes of Britain’s favourite baked treats.

The Contenders were:

  • Rich Tea
  • Chocolate Digestives
  • Original Digestives
  • Hobnobs
  • Ginger Nut
  • Fruit Shortcakes.
  • Nice
  • Malted Milk
  • Bourbon Creams
  • Custard Creams

Under the rules of the test each biscuit was dunked into a warm cup of tea in the classic in and out method for a single second. On returning to the air from the dunking the biscuits were judged on how many more dunks they could stand before they started crumbling under the pressure.

The clear winner in the ‘dunkability’ trials emerged with the McVitie’s Rich Tea being the clear winner.
