The facts about sweetener and cancer risk

Do you sometimes worry about artificial sweeteners in your food and drink? We probably all do from time to time, after all the TV, radio and newspapers are full of sometimes contradictory information about their health benefits. So it is good to hear something positive.

UKVending has a large range of sweeteners available to our customers as well as soft drinks that are often sweetened with artificial sweeteners. The sweetener in question is called Sucralose, which is sold around the world as Splenda. Sucralose is also one of a range of sweeteners that are used in a wide variety of foods and soft drinks.

An Italian organisation, Ramazzini Institute raised concerns over the use of Sucralose and issued a doom laden report following their study after feeding the sweetener to mice.

The good news is that their report was later analysed by the European Food Authority (EFSA) and their research has concluded that Sucralose is now safe to use.

Splenda was developed in Britain by researchers at Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, and the sugar company Tate and Lyle in 1976. Splenda and its associated products is made from sugar but with zero calories and is used in over 5,000 products in over 80 countries, including diet drinks, cakes, ice cream and breakfast cereals.
