Six cups of coffee a day may seem excessive to some but plenty of people worldwide still drink this number, and they could possibly be doing good for their joints in preventing the worst effects of gout. Gout is caused by a build up of a waste product called uric acid in the joints. In men the chances of developing gout was 59 per cent lower for those who drank large quantities of coffee than in men who didn’t. Even for those who drank four cups daily there was a 40 per cent lower risk. Similar results were found in women.
