Vending machine classics: history our favourite snacks

Doritos tortilla chips owe their existence to Disney. They were invented by the House of Mouse at Disneyland. Indeed a 30 second TV advert for the brand was in 2008 beamed into space!

Back in the 1970s and 1980s Monster Munch was all the rage in school playgrounds across the United Kingdom. What is not well known is that they were originally to have been known as Prime Monster – a play on Prime Minister. What’s more Genesis singer Phil Collins was chosen to launch the brand in 1977.

When they were launched Space Raiders came with a mini comic strip on the back of the packets in the 1980s and 1990s following the adventures of Astra and her space pirates.

In 1994 Nik Naks started using the flavouring guarana seed extract in their ‘Naughty ‘n’ Saucy range. Guarana is said to have aphrodisiac qualities.
