What price a cup of tea in Eastenders?

Phil Mitchell would surely get this ‘Sorted’ if he were a real person and not an Eastender character.
Shock Eastend tea prices. Some eagle eyed viewers to a recent edition of BBC’s Eastenders soap opera were left a little perplexed at the price of a cup of tea in the café in Walford. One episode of the long running soap saw Masood Ahmed being charged £2.40 for three cups of tea. Outside of London maybe, but right in the centre of the Metropolis?

Kathy’s café must surely be a very cheap place to have a cup of tea in London, with a cuppa costing just 80pence. To make matters worse the viewers then saw Masood pay for the teas with a fiver and tell Kathy to keep the change. That would mean his tip was larger than the cost of the teas themselves!
When the episode aired recently the Twittersphere erupted with a number of comments about the price of a cup of tea, including:
“3 cups of tea/coffee for £2.40 total …. in London …. I know it’s a work of fiction but come on #Eastenders,” declared one viewer.
As someone else blasted: “#EastEnders The only place where you can buy 3 Teas for £2.40 and leave a £2.60 tip!”
“The biggest hole in the current #EastEnders script writing is that three tea’s in the East end would cost £2.40. I DONT FINK SO M8 [sic],” slated a third viewer.
