World Paper Bag Day

At UK Vending we take our commitment to the environment seriously. That is why we are always interested in promoting ways to improve not just our local environment but globally too.

Today is one of those days where by doing a small thing you could make a big difference to the health of planet Earth. Today is World Paper Bag Day. In 2022 the organisers used the slogan, “If you’re fantastic, do Something ‘dramatic’ to Cut The Plastic’ Use ‘Paper Bags’.

The significance of Paper Bay Day is to discourage the use of plastic bags and to generate consciousness about how harmful they are to the environment as they take thousands of years to decompose. Paper bags are fully biodegradable.

Did you know that the first paper bag making machine was invented by American Francis Wolle in 1852? Nineteen years later in 1871 Margaret E. Knight created another machine that generated the flat bottom paper bag and rose to fame as ‘The Mother of the grocery bag’. Over the years better and stronger paper bags have been developed.
